Microcapsules
Anatomy of a capsule.
Three parts that only work together: a lesson short enough to act on, a challenge that makes the learner act, and the evidence that attempt leaves. Try one.
Aseptic technique for intramuscular injection
Perform the five asepsis steps before an IM injection
Before any intramuscular injection: hand hygiene, gloves, site inspection, skin antisepsis from the center outwards, and letting the antiseptic dry. Skipping the drying step is the most common break in the chain.
Evidence recorded
This is what your institution sees: what you can do, in how many attempts and in how much time. No grade, no attendance.
This is a real microcapsule. Read the lesson, take the challenge, leave evidence.
Lesson
Short enough to act on.
The lesson exists to make the challenge solvable. It can be a video, a document, a text or an audio clip, and it carries only what the learner needs for the challenge that follows.
Anything that does not help solve the challenge stays out. That is what keeps a capsule at two to three minutes and keeps the learner moving.
- Video, document, text or audio. Your team uploads the material it already has.
- Only what the challenge needs. If it does not help the learner act, it does not go in.
- Two to three minutes. Long enough to learn one thing, short enough to do it right away.
Activation challenge
Five ways to prove it.
A challenge asks the learner to do something with the lesson, not to recall it. Your team picks the type that fits the skill and sets the rubric, passing criteria, attempts and time limit for each one.
The examples below come from health training, where a wrong step has a cost. The same five types apply to any field.
- 01 Case
Case
A patient develops fever after surgery. The learner reads the case and identifies the breach in aseptic technique that most likely caused it.
- 02 Decision
Decision
Weight, concentration and prescribed dose are given. The learner calculates the volume to administer and picks one of four options. One is right; the others are common errors.
- 03 Submission
Submission
The learner fills in a clinical record from a short scenario and submits it. The rubric checks required fields, sequence and legibility.
- 04 Checklist
Checklist
Receiving vaccines: the learner confirms each cold-chain step in order, from temperature reading to storage log. The passing criteria can require every step.
- 05 Quick assessment
Quick assessment
Five questions on contraindications for a common medication, with a time limit. Fast enough to run after every lesson.
Evidence
Every attempt leaves a signal.
The challenge is not over when the learner submits. Each attempt records four things, and Vectry stores each one as an event: what happened, when and to whom.
Those signals feed the Reinforcement Hub and the competency map. That is how an error in one capsule becomes a prescribed reinforcement instead of a lower average.
- Result
- Passed or not, against the rubric and passing criteria
- Time
- How long the attempt took, against the time limit
- Attempts
- Which attempt this was, against the maximum allowed
- Error type
- What went wrong, grouped into patterns with a severity
Capsule kinds
Core and reinforcement.
Two kinds of capsule, two jobs. Core capsules make up the path every learner follows. Reinforcement capsules exist for a specific error pattern and appear only when an attempt shows it.
-
Core
corePart of the path. Has prerequisites and can be a prerequisite. Completing the core capsules is what earns the certificate.
-
Reinforcement
reinforcementPrescribed by the Reinforcement Hub for one error pattern. A short lesson and a new challenge on that error, then back to the path.
Rules
Your team sets the rules.
Nothing about a challenge is decided for you. Each one carries a rubric, passing criteria, a maximum number of attempts and a time limit, all set by the people who know the skill.
The platform applies those rules on every attempt and records the outcome. Sommatic AI can help the learner get to the challenge; it does not decide the result.
- 01
Rubric
What a good answer contains, written by your team. It is what every attempt is checked against.
- 02
Passing criteria
The threshold that turns an attempt into a completed capsule. Below it, the capsule needs reinforcement.
- 03
Attempts and time
How many tries the learner gets and how long each one can take. Both are recorded with every attempt.
Start with one capsule.
